New Building

The new building designed for the Wien Museum Neu was considered as the ordering element of the transformations of the surrounding area, organizing and restoring perspectives to the spaces in its entirety. An element that faces with a dialectical language the existing and significant buildings, both for their function and for their longer history. A building that would be clearly identifiable in the form of "resistant material", which would embrace, through its form, the Karlsplatz area, transforming it. It was done by subtraction and by inserts, so that every action was well recognizable. To underline this process, we used materials coming from the historical tradition of the urban area concerned. The New Museum takes shape through the grafting/positive connection of the new volumes, in etched copper shingles, which replace the central body of the building by raising it and to which another body with sinuous forms is brought alongside, welcoming the space and the routes of Karlsplatz.
